Mission Statement

After the 57th anti-Trump “opinion” letter to the editor posted by the Salt Lake Tribune, I realized that I simply couldn’t take it anymore. The news media, in my home state of Utah, seemed to have been silently but vociferously overtaken by a desperately insane need to push a radical left ideology that focused mostly on hating one man, over telling me what is going on in my local community and economy. While I am used to this kind of garbage from the Atlantic or Variety magazine, I simply couldn’t accept the fact that there is not a single independent source of real news about real issues facing my friends and loved ones, as it relates to us in our own state. It’s all about the same, low-brow, national argument over Donald J. Trump that dominates the news cycle, day after day, week, after week, month after month. So I set out to change all this and create a small, independent news site to bring to the forefront the pressing issues of the moment for your interest, living along the Wasatch Front. Local stories, local crime information, local economy, the housing market, the Gondola Project, and any other damn thing we want to know about, but have to wade through the garbage to get through.

My intention is to have an independent news channel that is completely separate from the LDS Church, divorced from the Trump Derangement/Devotion Syndrome, and can get down the gritty local issues that we should be paying attention to. No artificial intelligence writing, no cheesy erectile dysfunction drug ads, zero BS. Just simple stories about local issues and local people.

I moved to Salt Lake City in 2018, on the wave of the Silicon Slope startup economy, and have watched the city and the state grow enormously from then until now. I remember when the traffic on the I-15 was drivable. I remember when skiing was affordable. I remember when I didn’t have to get up at 5am to get a parking spot at Snowbird. I am a half-Jewish, half-Presbyterian guy who grew up in Kentucky and spent half my adult life in California. I’m an independent thinker and a non-partisan. I want to bring some level of sane discourse about the world in which we exist without stooping to the modern dumbness of the national arguments we find ourselves quagmire inside of. So here it is; Savvy News Utah, your source for local stories that matter to you.

Your Editor-In-Chief,
